To configure Sim101 on your Ninja Mobile Trader VPS, open NinjaTrader Desktop’s Control Center, select Accounts and edit the Sim101 account. Check your connection mode first, then set the account values and simulation behavior for the practice session you want to run.
We specialize in hosting NinjaTrader Desktop on Windows. Keep your practice environment in the same hosted installation and return to it from a supported PC, Mac, phone or tablet. Windows licensing and 24/7 VPS support are included with our subscriptions.
Make sure you are using a local simulation account#
Sim101 is NinjaTrader’s local practice account, with its own simulated cash balance and buying-power checks. Its availability depends on Multi-provider mode:
- Multi-provider enabled: local simulation accounts are available. Check Sim101 in the account selector of the order-entry window you will use.
- Multi-provider disabled: the sign-in Trading Mode selection connects you to Live or Simulation; local simulation accounts are unavailable. Choosing Simulation there is a different workflow from configuring local Sim101.
NinjaTrader documents the Multi-provider setting under Tools > Options. Plan connection-mode changes while execution is stopped: enabling it also switches an opted-in server-side ATM setup to local ATMs. Our ATM template guide explains that separate configuration.
With local simulation available, Tools > Global Simulation Mode restricts order-entry account selectors to simulation accounts. A check mark means it is active. This selector restriction does not replace checking strategy and copier routes; keep live execution excluded from the practice session.
Set the starting balance without losing needed records#
Use NinjaTrader’s Sim101 account controls inside the remote Windows desktop:
- Open Control Center > Accounts.
- Right-click Sim101 and open its account editor.
- Set Initial cash to the simulated starting balance you want to use.
- To reset the account to that value, choose Reset.
Save any records you need before resetting simulator values or clearing order history. Do this after stopping the practice session and checking its orders and positions. A reset establishes a new practice starting point; it is not a broker-account balance change.
For a separate practice record, create another local simulation account instead. In the Accounts tab’s context menu, choose Add Simulation Account; the simulator guide calls this New simulation account…. Give it a recognizable name, configure it and confirm. NinjaTrader states that a new simulation account becomes active on the next data-provider connection, so plan that reconnect outside an active session.
Choose the fill behavior and a visible simulation cue#
Open the Trading category in NinjaTrader’s settings/options window. The Trading settings reference identifies these controls:
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Enforce immediate fills | Fills simulation orders immediately instead of using the advanced fill engine. |
| Enforce partial fills | Forces partial fills for simulation orders. With it disabled, the fill engine determines fills. |
| Simulation color | Colors an order interface when a simulation account is selected. Transparent disables the color cue. |
For a session using the normal simulation engine, leave the two fill overrides off. If you deliberately force a behavior to rehearse it, record that choice before comparing sessions.
The simulation engine considers market activity, order-queue conditions and simulated delays. A hosted desktop gives you a consistent place to configure that environment; simulation fills do not establish how a live order would execute.
Record the setup before your first practice order#
Use streaming data during the instrument’s market hours. NinjaTrader’s simulation guidance also notes that Sim101 does not implement time-in-force expiration or automatic end-of-session cancellation. Check remaining simulated orders when finishing.
Keep this short record with your practice notes:
| Record | Your session |
|---|---|
| Account and starting balance | Exact local simulation account; chosen Initial cash |
| Data and instrument | Connected provider; exact instrument or contract |
| Fill configuration | Immediate-fill and partial-fill overrides on/off |
| Order-entry window | Selected account; visible simulation color |
Our Chart Trader guide and SuperDOM guide cover the order controls. For recorded-data practice use the Playback guide; for historical NinjaScript backtests use Strategy Analyzer.
