Choose a trading VPS around the software that must run when your own computer is off. Quantower account copying, MetaTrader Expert Advisors, and TradeStation Desktop tools have different requirements; the platform name alone does not determine the server size.

Quantower workflows#
Quantower’s Copy Trading panel requires the platform to be running. Cross-connection copying also needs the appropriate account and symbol configuration; a VPS does not make unsupported account combinations compatible.

MetaTrader workflows#
A desktop EA needs its terminal, broker connection, and trading permissions. In MT5, platform-wide and individual EA settings can prevent automated trading even when the terminal is open.
Choose a full Windows desktop when your MetaTrader workflow needs additional applications or several tools in the same desktop environment. MetaTrader’s built-in virtual hosting is a different product focused on compatible robot and signal setups; it does not provide that general Windows desktop.

TradeStation workflows#
TradeStation Desktop includes Chart Analysis, Matrix, RadarScreen, and custom TradingApps. A hosted desktop is useful when you need that installed environment from another device.
Verify the server operating system and the particular TradeStation product you intend to use. The TradeStation VPS guide distinguishes Desktop from web, mobile, and newer native options.
When to move up to a dedicated server#
Start with the workload: chart history, indicators, strategy calculations, active accounts, and companion programs. If CPU or memory remains constrained during representative use, investigate the demanding component and compare a larger VPS with dedicated hardware.
There is no universal account count or platform count that requires a dedicated server. Nor does more hardware fix a rejected order, an unsupported connector, or disabled automation.
