NinjaTrader Workspaces and Chart Templates on Your VPS

Save NinjaTrader layouts and reuse chart templates on your NMT VPS. Keep a working layout, check template settings and access the same hosted setup across devices.

NinjaTrader desktop workspace with charts and SuperDOM order tools

Save your NinjaTrader window layout as a workspace, and save reusable chart settings as a chart template—inside your Ninja Mobile Trader VPS. We specialize in hosting NinjaTrader Desktop on Windows, so your charts and installed add-ons stay together when you connect from a PC, Mac, phone or tablet.

For our customers, the practical advantage is one hosted installation to organize. You can build a layout on a larger screen and return to it from another supported device without recreating a separate Windows setup there.

Choose the right kind of save#

What you want to keep Use
A named arrangement of NinjaTrader windows Workspace
Chart appearance, panel properties and indicator settings for reuse Chart template
Selected application files and data for recovery Backup archive

Saving a layout and creating a recovery archive are different tasks. Use our NinjaTrader backup and restore guide for archive contents and recovery steps.

Create a workspace, then keep a working copy#

Follow NinjaTrader’s Workspaces menu guide inside the VPS:

  1. In the Control Center, select Workspaces > new, name the workspace and select OK.
  2. Arrange the windows you need.
  3. Open Workspaces, hover over that workspace’s name and select save.
  4. Before experimenting with a different layout, use save as and give the copy another name. NinjaTrader switches to the new workspace and leaves the old file unchanged.

For example, keep Futures-Desk as your established layout and try a less crowded arrangement in Futures-Compact. Those are suggested names, not preset layouts supplied by NinjaTrader or NMT.

Active, open and closed are different#

A filled green rectangle marks the active workspace. A rectangle beside another name means it is open; no rectangle means it is closed. Only one workspace is active at a time.

Select a workspace to display it, or use Shift+F3 to cycle through open workspaces. A layout disappearing from view does not mean you closed it. Use close when you intend to close a workspace; remove deletes it.

Reuse a chart template deliberately#

NinjaTrader’s chart-template instructions describe saving chart properties, panel properties and indicator settings.

  1. Configure a chart inside your VPS.
  2. Right-click the chart and select Templates > Save As.
  3. Give it a descriptive name, such as Clean-Chart.
  4. On the destination chart, select Templates > Load and choose that template.

The destination must have the same number of Data Series as the chart used to save the template. For example, a template saved from a one-series chart belongs on another one-series chart.

A chart template does not preserve instrument-specific drawing objects. It can also override manually selected settings: NinjaTrader specifically notes that saved Trading Hours take precedence when the template loads. Recheck that field instead of assuming the destination chart kept its earlier session.

Use a named template while testing your arrangement. Templates > Save as Default changes the default for new charts, so choose that only when you want the broader effect.

Check the layout before using order controls#

After loading the template, check the intended instrument/contract, bar interval, trading hours and indicators. If Chart Trader or another order-entry window is visible, check its account and quantity separately. A chart looking familiar is not confirmation of those selections.

Try the changed arrangement in your supported simulation setup with live execution excluded. Check that labels, account selectors and order controls remain readable, then save the workspace you want to keep.

This check is especially useful for the compact example: fewer panels can make a small screen easier to use, but a workspace name does not automatically select the right account or make a layout suitable for touch.

Return to the same NMT desktop#

Connect to the same VPS address and Windows user account from your next device. Your workspace and template files are in that hosted Windows installation; they are not being copied into NinjaTrader’s separate native mobile app.

Our mobile desktop guide covers access and touch controls, and the Windows VPS setup guide covers reconnecting to the same session. Keep those connection details consistent so you return to the setup you organized.

Keep your NinjaTrader workspace in one place

Our Windows hosting gives you one NinjaTrader Desktop installation to reach across supported devices, with Windows licensing included and 24/7 VPS support.
